SF at Chilhowie: Approx 100CFS, optimum
SF at Damascus: Approx 1000CFS, high
Water was too high in Damascus so I kicked up into Chilhowie.
Yellow sallies are in the air.. mix of pale yellow and some are a chartreuse green. They hatch in the dark so the nymphs are going to work a lot better.
Lots of small tan caddis (very popular eats) dry or nymph both they ate a ton this weekend.
Some smaller BWOs and light colored flies. Also the light cahills have started but weren’t a big contributor to the rising fish eats.
My starting dry fly setup has been a larger cream colored humpy (12/14) and a small brown olive BWO emerger about 6-8 inches off the back. If they’re eating mayflies they’ll take one or the other. Then I switch to just a 14/16 tan caddis.
Nymph wise I was running a weighted yellow stone fly (small for the sallies) and a frenchie off the back.
I didn’t get to spots where I know there are green drakes but my log says they should be in full force for a little while longer.
