Happy 4th of July! Spent some time with family in NC and took my nephew out early for some fly fishing. My fishing these past weeks has been limited to smallies on conventional tackle. Check those water temps regularly.
Had dry fly takes on Adam’s and pink and yellow hoppers. Dropper wise a pink hotspot pheasant tail or frenchie was doing the trick.
There are still mayflies to be had. I’d start focusing on tan and brown/orange colored caddis on most of the SWVA waters and attractor patterns in dry dropper rigs for the foreseeable future. Terrestrials fall into that category as well. The early mornings and dusk time periods are the best times.
